Rise up! Create more diversity in the breast/chestfeeding support community!

I'm a Pilipinx mother of three who has been breastfeeding since 2009. I have held community events supporting and sharing information about breastfeeding, held breast milk donation drives, and been honored to hold lactation support groups for families in Long Beach.

In 11 years of breastfeeding and working within the lactation community, I have never ever personally ever had a Pilipinx lactation consultant, counselor, educator, or specialist. I have met a handful. I could count them on one hand. That's not to say none exist. But not nearly enough do. There aren't nearly enough non-white people in the lactation professional community. I'm down to support changing that, are you?

Imagine a person gives birth in a hospital and they only speak Tagalog, and in walks... a Tagalog-speaking lactation professional who knows the language, has some common ground in the culture?! The success rate for that person in feeding their child with their body just skyrockets.

This fundraiser for BreastfeedLA will, in part, provide lactation education scholarships to non-white people so we can have a lactation professional community that better reflects our breast/chestfeeding community.
